About Us
The Templar Agency was established on January 1, 2000, by John Templeton following an extensive career in employee benefits sales and consulting with some of America’s largest and best-known insurers and brokerages. During the preceding 20 years, Mr. Templeton worked with clients ranging in size from over 10,000 employees to under 10. Clients included major corporations, national associations, NFL teams and many small firms just wading into the world of commerce. As a division manager and vice-president at the Marsh & McLennan Companies, John Templeton gained experience in areas of employee benefits management including Life, Disability, Dental, Medical and Pension plans as well as claims management.
When the opportunity arose in 1999 to leave the pressure-cooker world of jumbo clients and major management, Mr. Templeton wrapped up his service to Marsh, returned to his native Tennessee and opened The Templar Agency, a name recalling the fabled crusading knights whose charge it was to protect Christian travelers making the pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The goal of The Templar Agency is similar—to create opportunities for its clients to have the important insurance protections so crucial to the success of a modern business.
